Doors Open in India

December 8, 2017 | Light Bearers

It was November of 2001—November 5 to be exact. Sixteen years ago!

That was the last time and the only other time that Light Bearers managed to get a container of gospel literature into India. Now God has again prevailed, this time through a group of super committed believers who went beyond the call of duty to make it happen. One man left his work and home for three weeks and basically camped out at the port of call to get this container full of gospel literature cleared. The custom officials brought up one issue after another, even complaining about the fact that we had sent them used Bibles instead of new ones. (Light Bearers ships donated Bibles that are still in good condition to supplement our literature, so please keep them coming.) Finally, after much prayer and work on the part of our brothers in India, the container was cleared and now the precious gospel literature is making its way into hearts and homes throughout this great country where …

The Great Big Power of Teeny Tiny Things by Anneliese Wahlman

The Great Big Power of Teeny Tiny Things

In 2005, a fresh-out-of-prison graffiti artist was asked to paint some murals in the office of a small startup in Palo Alto, California. As payment, the artist was offered thousands of dollars in cash or company stock. Eight and half minutes of searching Google will tell you that even though the artist thought the startup was stupid, he made a gamble and chose company stock. In 2012, when Facebook went public with their stocks, the artist’s shares were worth around $200 million.

It’s nice when things work out like that.

But that’s not usually the way it works. Whether you’re picking up produce at the store, beginning a new relationship, or buying stocks, there’s no guarantee that an investment will live up to your expectations. Sometimes you score big. Other times you cut open your farmer’s market avocados and find they’re the color of your toddler’s diarrhea.

Not cool.

The risk of failure makes it difficult to know how we should invest. As we grow older, we become a little …

Running Back and Forth by Ty Gibson

Running Back and Forth

May 5, 2017 | Ty Gibson

Hello friends of Light Bearers!

There are so many exciting things going on here at the ministry, I can hardly keep up. But I’d rather be busy than bored. I’m sure you feel the same. I recently read in Ezekiel the mind-blowing fact that we’re not alone in our busyness:

“The living creatures ran back and forth…” (1:14).

“The appearance of their workings was, as it were, a wheel in the middle of a wheel” (1:16).

So, get this: there are angelic beings in heaven, and what are they doing? Running back and forth. They are so busy executing tasks that they move as fast as possible. And they must be highly organized, because their “workings” are pictured as intersecting wheels of activity.

That’s how the work of Light Bearers feels at times—actually all the time. And it is such a joy to be part of this team. Allow me to share with you a few of the things God has us doing presently.

Literature Reports from the World Field by Meiring Pretorius

Literature Reports from the World Field

The Seventh-day Adventist Church membership in Zambia has doubled in the past 10 years, growing from 500,000 members to more than a million. With a population of 15 million people, Zambia has the highest Adventist Church growth rate in Africa, and thousands are added to the church every year. What is the secret to the church’s success?

During a brief visit I made to Zambia on behalf of Light Bearers Ministry, one of the directors for the South Zambia Union Conference organized an advisory committee meeting which included directors from seven conferences and fields. We met in the small mining town of Mufulira, Copperbelt. Each director gave a short report on how the material from Light Bearers was used in 2016. One of the directors read the following statement:

“I was shown men and women studying with intense interest papers and few pages of tracts upon present truth. They would read the evidences so wonderful and new to them, and would open their Bibles with a deep and new interest, …

A Banker Sees An Opportunity by Meiring Pretorius

A Banker Sees an Opportunity

March 3, 2017 | Meiring Pretorius

“Many whom God has qualified to do excellent work accomplish very little, because they attempt little. Thousands pass through life as if they had no definite object for which to live, no standard to reach. Such will obtain a reward proportionate to their works” (Ellen White, Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 331).

A man by the name of Master Makore worked for a major bank in Harare, Zimbabwe. Someone gave him three Light Bearers Bible lessons to read, which changed his life. He soon felt a deep conviction to share this newfound truth with his colleagues during his lunch breaks. So Master’s co-workers would sit under a big tree as he taught them from the three Bible lessons he had, which covered the state of the dead, the Second Coming, and the health message. He had so familiarized himself with the topics that he could answer the questions that naturally arose.

During one of the lunch hour discussions, two men came to interrupt the conversation. They told Master that he should …

Changed and Inspired by Literature by Meiring Pretorius

Changed and Inspired by Literature

February 3, 2017 | Meiring Pretorius

As I drove into the country of Lesotho, I typed into my GPS the address of the Lesotho Conference headquarters and followed the directions into the central part of Maseru, the capital city of Lesotho. With the GPS it should not be too difficult to locate the building, I thought to myself. Then I heard the voice of my GPS saying, “Arriving at destination.” Looking around, I could not see any conference building. This is strange, I thought. Eventually, after driving around looking for the desired building, I decided to ask for directions. To my surprise, people did not know where the Seventh-day Adventist Church headquarters were (although I later found out the conference building was not far from where I’d been). I prayed, got into my vehicle, and decided to continue looking for the building in that area. I saw a sign for an Adventist secondary school, turned off, and asked for directions to the conference office. Fortunately, it was on the same premises.

However, even within the secondary …

What God Has Wrought by James Rafferty

What God Has Wrought!

December 2, 2016 | James Rafferty

This year flew by, but not without heaven making a notable impact on our world through your generous support of Light Bearers Ministry. “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy!” (Psalm 126:3). Here are a few joyful highlights:

Publishing

2016 saw 12 containers of literature (21 million pieces all together) proclaiming the glad tidings of a God named Desire to all the world (Haggai 2:7). The requests for literature keep coming in, too (no surprise there). The Bible is clear that the everlasting gospel is to be carried by angels “to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people” (Revelation 14:6).  Angels represent both literal beings as well as literature “messengers,” as noted in the following statements:

“Publications must be multiplied, and scattered like the leaves of autumn. These silent messengers are enlightening and molding the minds of thousands in every country and in every clime” (Review and Herald, Nov. 21, 1878).

“I saw that the work of present truth should engage the interest of …
