A Banker Sees An Opportunity by Meiring Pretorius

A Banker Sees an Opportunity

March 3, 2017 | Meiring Pretorius

“Many whom God has qualified to do excellent work accomplish very little, because they attempt little. Thousands pass through life as if they had no definite object for which to live, no standard to reach. Such will obtain a reward proportionate to their works” (Ellen White, Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 331).

A man by the name of Master Makore worked for a major bank in Harare, Zimbabwe. Someone gave him three Light Bearers Bible lessons to read, which changed his life. He soon felt a deep conviction to share this newfound truth with his colleagues during his lunch breaks. So Master’s co-workers would sit under a big tree as he taught them from the three Bible lessons he had, which covered the state of the dead, the Second Coming, and the health message. He had so familiarized himself with the topics that he could answer the questions that naturally arose.

During one of the lunch hour discussions, two men came to interrupt the conversation. They told Master that he should …

Changed and Inspired by Literature by Meiring Pretorius

Changed and Inspired by Literature

February 3, 2017 | Meiring Pretorius

As I drove into the country of Lesotho, I typed into my GPS the address of the Lesotho Conference headquarters and followed the directions into the central part of Maseru, the capital city of Lesotho. With the GPS it should not be too difficult to locate the building, I thought to myself. Then I heard the voice of my GPS saying, “Arriving at destination.” Looking around, I could not see any conference building. This is strange, I thought. Eventually, after driving around looking for the desired building, I decided to ask for directions. To my surprise, people did not know where the Seventh-day Adventist Church headquarters were (although I later found out the conference building was not far from where I’d been). I prayed, got into my vehicle, and decided to continue looking for the building in that area. I saw a sign for an Adventist secondary school, turned off, and asked for directions to the conference office. Fortunately, it was on the same premises.

However, even within the secondary …

What God Has Wrought by James Rafferty

What God Has Wrought!

December 2, 2016 | James Rafferty

This year flew by, but not without heaven making a notable impact on our world through your generous support of Light Bearers Ministry. “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy!” (Psalm 126:3). Here are a few joyful highlights:

Publishing

2016 saw 12 containers of literature (21 million pieces all together) proclaiming the glad tidings of a God named Desire to all the world (Haggai 2:7). The requests for literature keep coming in, too (no surprise there). The Bible is clear that the everlasting gospel is to be carried by angels “to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people” (Revelation 14:6).  Angels represent both literal beings as well as literature “messengers,” as noted in the following statements:

“Publications must be multiplied, and scattered like the leaves of autumn. These silent messengers are enlightening and molding the minds of thousands in every country and in every clime” (Review and Herald, Nov. 21, 1878).

“I saw that the work of present truth should engage the interest of …

Literature Evangelism in Tanzania by Meiring Pretorius

Literature Evangelism in Tanzania

September 2, 2016 | Meiring Pretorius

Magomeni Seventh-day Adventist Church believes that the most rapid and cost-effective way of placing the gospel in the hands of humanity’s hungering masses is through spreading truth-filled literature and publications.

It is because of this inherent faith we decided to contact Light Bearers Ministry (LBM), requesting their collaboration and partnership with us for achieving this soul-saving objective. Our request was accepted by LBM and we received two 20-foot containers loaded with four million publications, free of charge, written in Kiswahili and English for distribution to the most needy and receptive people of Tanzania.

In fulfilling this mission, we combined several evangelistic campaign methods of reaching our people. The strategies used included house-to-house visitation, Sabbath School classes, Bible study classes and public effort campaigns in the churches and open grounds. We sent the publications to various institutions of higher learning in Tanzania. We opened Bible classes in schools, prisons, hospitals and strategic points of influence.

About 28 churches in Dar es Salaam (DSM) were allocated and given publications for distribution. About …

Light for A Dark Area

Light for a Dark Area

November 30, 2015 | Light Bearers

Oh, how sweet it was when the barge finally arrived bearing the precious Bible lessons from Light Bearers Ministry! It had been a long journey! Several months before, the container packed with Bible studies in French, Lingala and Swahili had left Jasper, Oregon. After crossing the ocean to Matadi port, the container had to be trucked 220 miles around unnavigable parts of the Congo River. Then, after unloading the Lingala Bible studies in Kinshasa, 600 more miles by barge were needed to reach Kisangani, the home of Congo Frontline Missions.

Congo Frontline Missions (CFM) is a supporting ministry started by Keith Mosier in 2008. It is located near Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a city of about one million in the heart of the Congo River Basin. This area is both unreached and remote, and today, CFM has the only foreign mission staff families within 300 miles. CFM’s focus has been to provide evangelism training for church planters at its training facility. In addition, CFM has a dental clinic, …

Global Impact

Global Impact

October 1, 2015 | Ty Gibson

In 1985, a few of us new converts—James Rafferty, Sue Gibson, and myself—received what we knew to be specific direction from the God of the universe. We were young and on fire for the Lord (now we’re older but still on fire for the Lord). James and I were conducting small group Bible studies in homes and traveling to preach in local venues. We were driven by these astounding prophetic words:

“I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory” (Revelation 18:1).

Here John foretells a time when the message of the gospel will go global. People all over the world will have their hearts and minds “illuminated” with the glorious truth of God’s love embodied in Christ. We realized that something massive and dramatic would have to happen in order for the message to be placed within the reach of everybody on the planet. And then, somewhere along the lines as we were preaching and teaching, we read these …

The Golden Tracts

The Golden Tracts

September 4, 2015 | Wendy Harris

The calls started coming in as fast as I could keep up.

“I heard about your Bible study guides, I’m a district pastor in Mindoro, I have 13 churches with small groups in each. May I have four boxes? I’ll be there tomorrow.”

“I’m from South Central Luzon Conference, may we have 26 boxes for our district?”

“I’m from 1000 missionary movement, we have ongoing Bible studies throughout the community and the world, how many can we have?”

“We have a feeding program and outreach ministry at the market every week with Bible interests, can we have some of your Bible study guides?”

They are so overjoyed that these Bible guides are free . . .

Ever since we received the container of literature from Light Bearers ministry a couple months ago, we continue to get regular calls and traffic at our door to pick up the “golden” tracts of sharing materials. Not only are local dialect Tagalog materials hard to come by, but the pastors and ministry leaders cannot afford them even when …
